Bérangère Claire
With September around the corner, I feel it’s the perfect time to introduce you to (if you are not already familiar with it) one of my latest crushes in terms of French confidential fashion labels: Bérangère Claire.
I first heard about it about a year ago whilst surfing on the Internet and instantly couldn’t resist getting hold of some of her pieces. The funny story is that I actually got obsessed with a perfect navy blue sweater that was sold out, and to my biggest surprise, eventually ended up tracking it just before Christmas, after multiple phone calls to stores … which was kind of special – because, you’ve guessed it, as a proper confidential label, all pieces are limited series.
I always wonder what makes a label this special; clearly in the case of Bérangère Claire, it’s a definite French ‘je ne sais quoi’. Well intergrated within the French touch music/fashion/bloggers crowd, Bérangère Claire herself cleverly re-interprets à la française an intelligent mix of US preppy influences and masculine tailoring. To this alchemy, a BCBG cool factor is injected with total borderline control.
Her AW10 collection feels remarkably relevant and modern, with pieces I would wear again and again. I absolutely love how she has incorporated 70’s inspired details; such as the coveted ribbon around neck as seen at Chloé, her iconic ‘BC’ monogram embroidered in gold, smock dresses, officer collars and discrete ruffles in her signature bon-enfant chic check-shirting spirit.
Undoubtedly, the BC girl brings a whole new dimension to wearable French chic clothing amongst the tradi-branché other labels Kitsuné, Surface to Air and A.P.C. By designing effortless, chic and affordable new-basics, Bérangère Claire street-chic cred knows like no one else the way to outsider fashion lover’s hearts.
