Fun Loving Criminals @ Edinburgh Festival

Don’t get stuck indoors! It’s too hot to spend the Fringe festival sweating into your theatre seat.

Yes, Edinburgh might be known as a fort built to resist winter frost but its summer, time to chill in the Bulmers urban orchard instead. Open between midday and 8pm from the 5th to 29th August the urban sanctuary can be found in Princes Street Gardens.

Sound tracking, the sweet rays are Sun Lovin Criminals. A damn fine outfit whose targets include DJ Jazzy Jeff, Katrina and the Waves, fearlessly re-interpreted through the medium of cello, guitars and sax so that even ‘Ace of Spades’ might come across as breezy and playful.

Haus knocked back the new limited edition Summer Blend (apple and pear) ciders from the bar and had a chat to the jokers that are fun loving criminals. If you can’t make it to Princes Street, Bulmers new mobile phone App will direct you to the nearest cider spot. With two and a half thousand gardens round the country featured, there will surely be one nearby.

Have you guys enjoyed the Edinburgh festival so far?
The festival’s fantastic. There’s loads going on and it’s really lovely to be in such a beautiful city with so many great shows going on.

Any act you want to see, you’ve realy enjoyed?

We ended up seeing ventriloquist Paul Zerdin the other night who was brilliant. We weren’t sure what to expect but he was really funny. I’m looking forward to seeing Reginald D Hunter too.

What’s song has gone down the best so far across your UK tour?

It’s probably a toss up between Place Your Hands by Reef or Stayin’ Alive. The band’s favourite is definitely Ready For The Weekend.

Do you ever try doing hip-hop covers just on cello, sax and guitars?

We do a mean (albeit brief) version of Summertime by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince which has been going down pretty well. We’re working up a version of Jump Around too.

Spending you’re whole day in an orchard you must have some gardening tips for us?
