Funky House N Grime Watch

From the deepest, darkest, dingiest flat in the ghetto of Act-on, the inpentrable mind of Maks FM surveys the latest (and nearly latest) releases coming out of the UK’s pirate radio stations.

Katy B – On a Mission

Spend most of you’re night in a fucking grotty DMZ like place – wobbly bass heads in abundance and you’ll be more than ecstatic to hear Katy B’s new single. Yeah, she came from the land of cheesy pop aka Brit Academy but at least this vocalist will be pushing up the sales unlike La Roux who we all love to point out made it big off Skream’s remix. Speaking of which it’s produced by Benga, one of the aptly named ‘Bermuda triangle’ of Magnetic Man, (face it they’re better off producing on their own). Anyways Katy’s going to be big this year collaborating with Ms Dynamite and seemingly dragged to every event Annie Mac can force her to pitch up at.

Wiley – Party Pooper

Still unfairly regarded as a watch salesman Wiley is in our opinion, one of the greatest CBBC soundtrack producers of this decade. Party popping may talk about how great scouse girls are but the back drop beat will happily send you to bed sucking your thumb.

Kentphonik’s “Hiya Kaya (Rocco Deep Mix)

Surely the words Kent and Phonik can’t go together? Deep South African beats mixed with racist slur from the East Coast? This is the one of the new anthems of the ominously named ‘Circle’ rave collective in south London that promises 100% sexy female dominated raves. It’s an acquired Rinse FM taste but new rhythms and vocals slide into one another flawlessly to create that deep house sound. Also to be featured on Rinse FM’s ‘I love Funky’ compilation.

Dennis Ferrer – Hey Hey

The sexiest DJ dancer Dennis Ferrer is not, as this video will undoubtedly confirm. Mix Mag, The Essential Mix and ‘new anthem’ this tune has all the accolades it needs but…You can just see it happen, you’re on the dance floor ‘hey-hey’ vocals, shit there is actually a girl whose noticed me (just like Dennis said! This is what this song is all about, shit) but wait – all you can picture is a guy embarrassing himself bathed in green light.

JME & Tempa T – CD Is Dead (S1 Remix)

Teeeeeeempzzzz! Okay this is back from May but it had to be featured. Next Hype was mass-ive taking the piss and showcasing aggression only equalled by the Peckham Terminator. But boy better know JME rules this track. The tune might be about CDs being killed off in the music industry but it’s Tempa whose dead in the water, vocals faded out, catching JME’s rubbish. I mean there’s a point where JME talks to a dead CD with Tempa’s face on it. Did no one else get the visual metaphor? Where did it all go wrong? Stand up for yourself Tempa learn from the Peckham Terminator.
