Oh la la! Le train: C’est chic

TRAVEL IN STYLE – Christian Lacroix, the ultimate name in French fashion and famed for his artistic designs during the 1980’s, has collaborated with French Railways to create a unique and stylish train decor, providing passengers with the chance to travel in the epitome of elegance in high-speed transport. No longer will train journeys be associated with drab, grey seating, sticky tables and dirty carpeting.
Instead welcome to the luxurious world of Lacroix.
The SNCF chose Lacroix to renovate the interiors of their trains, and he did not disappoint. His colourful and vibrant designs have made the train’s environment much more welcoming to travellers and he has managed to instill the train interiors with a fun and sexy vibe, not normally associated with a typical train ride. The bespoke, boutique, hotel- like environment in the carriages allows passengers to relax and enjoy their journey rather than count the minutes they have to be crammed into such a dull and generic place. No longer will passengers be starring aimlessly out of the window. Instead they will be captivated by the inside of the train and it’s vibrant and energetic patterns on walls and seats. He is also responsible for re-vamping the SNCF workers uniforms. 20,000 employees are now sporting his grey and purple uniforms, which are classy, sophisticated and a la mode.
It’s the first collaboration between a fashion designer and railway interior design but let’s hope English designers sit up and take note. More aesthetically pleasing public transport may be the way forward to encourage the public to be more environmentally friendly. Watch this space.
Bonne voyage.
